PUNXSUTAWNEY — A Punxsy man is charged with withholding information about his employment to fraudulently receive government benefits.
Robert D. Black, 52, 2 Clark Dr., Punxsutawney, is charged by the Pennsylvania Office of the Inspector General with fraud to obtain benefits.
Charges were filed Thursday with District Judge Jacqueline Mizerock of Punxsutawney.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Black failed to inform the Department of Human Services that he had began employment with Stella Foods on Aug. 18, 2017.
An investigation by the OIG determined Black failed to report these earnings because they would negatively impact his eligibility for Medical Assistance and Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) benefits.
It has been determined that Black fraudulently obtained MA and LIHEAP benefits totaling $2,661.01.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. March 1 at Mizerock’s office in Punxsy.
