BROCKWAY — A four-goal first half powered Karns City to a 6-0 victory over Elk County Catholic in the District 9 Class A semifinals at Frank Varischetti Field Wednesday.

The No. 2 seed Gremlins scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes after the opening kickoff and never looked back on their way to the resounding victory.

3:09 into the game, Karns City sophomore Owen Collwell fired a perfectly placed shot into the far corner of the net from the top of the 18-yard box to give the early lead.

The third-seeded Crusaders were never able to respond, as they had several opportunities throughout the first half that either just missed the frame of the goal or were turned away by Karns City keeper Jacob Weckerly.

The Gremlins doubled their lead in the 15th minute, as Nathaniel Rondinelli fired a shot into the back of the net from outside the box to bring the score to 2-0.

Late in the first half, Karns City scored a pair of goals in less than a minute to take total control of the game.

In the 38th minute, a Elk County Catholic defender attempted to screen Austin Fahkor from the ball as it headed towards the end line.

Fahkor was able to get around the defender, getting to the ball just before it crossed the end line, and send a low cross into the center of the box.

Dakota King was there to send the ball into the net to put the Gremlins in front 3-0.

Just 23 seconds later it was King and Fahkor linking up again, as this time King fired a shot on goal, that was turned away by ECC keeper Jacob Koss.

The rebound bounced directly to Fahkor, who took advantage of the open net as Koss was still recovering from the save, to stretch the Gremlins lead to four. at the 37:41 mark of the opening half.

Karns City took their four-goal advantage into the half, as they outshot the Crusaders 13-5 in the opening 40 of the game.

The Gremlins continued their persistent offensive attack in the second half, as they finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots in the final 40.

In the 61st minute, Rondinelli scored his second goal of the night, firing a shot from well outside the box that found its way under the bar and off the fingertips of Koss to push the lead to 5-0.

Rondinelli finished off the hat trick just over three minutes later, firing a tough-angle shot inside the near post to bring the score to 6-0.

Despite allowing six goals, Koss made several strong saves to limit the damage, finishing the night with nine saves in net.

Weckerly made five saves for the Gremlins to preserve the shutout and secure the victory in net.

With the win, the second-seeded Gremlins will take on top-seeded Brockway, who defeated DuBois Central Catholic 5-0 on the other side of the bracket, in the District Championship game.
